Demonoir
By: Ebonfire
Date: 18 Jun 2010
Rating:
Demonior is a return to the earlier style of aggressive, uncompromising and high intensity black metal that we all used to know and love, but still contains obvious traces of the ambient black metal found in their previous album “Revelation Of The Black Flames”.

Overall, all of the actual songs on this album are extremely well done, even though they are broken up by all the mini-instrumental tracks that have been placed in between each song. Those who wanted a return to 1349’s earlier style will certainly be pleased with this.

The interludes, while not bad on their own, are numerous and break up the flow of the album. Most of the interludes flow seamlessly into the next track, so I think they should have just been blended into the actual songs to begin with or, preferably, taken out altogether.

The three covers found on the limited edition of Demonior seem to be nothing but straight copies of the original songs. Anyone who has heard the originals have, by extension, heard 1349’s rendition of them. This doesn’t mean they’re bad covers, but I did expect 1349 to do a better job with adapting the originals into their own style.

Demonior is definitely a very well done album, and a welcome return to the type of relentless black metal that we all know 1349 are capable of.
