3 years have passed since 2008 Taake "Taake" Album, so here we have now their 5th full-lenght (under Dark Essence Records) till this moment.
I have to quote there's no band, even in Norway, which sounds the same than Taake's has been playing. They are unique and that's why this band is so important. Some time ago, I watched an interview where Hoest said Taake was created just for Norwegian people. Their lyrics are very patriotic and are all in Norwegian (booklet written always in Runes), inspired by their city (Bergen) and the surrounding athmosphere there.
Back to the album, "Noregs Vaapen" which means "Norwegian Weapon" has a very nice and special guests like Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone), Athila Csihar (Mayhem) y Demonaz (Immortal, Demonaz) and also incorporates new elements like Mellotron (songs 1 & 5), Banjo (song 5) and Mandolin (song 6). This Album has quite a distinguished sound compared to Taake’s previous releases cause the production and sound in general is softer, thing that shows how Hoest wanted to make a perfect blend between the old Black Metal band's style and a some new waves, without changing on a radical way. There's no boring song here, since the first song you can listen the characteristic Taake's sound. All songs have a lot of variety on tempo, soloing, chorus, interludes and the complete atmosphere, which is always fascinating. Another new thing on this Album is that features some 70s or 80s hard rock style of guitar work at times. There are a few guitar riffs and solos here which definitely change the tone of the music here.
This is by far a very good Album, also Taake's one of the best representative Black Metal Bands nowadays.
I rate this Album 5/5. Highly recommended.
