I'm probably too soon but I've had this promo disc for a few weeks now and goddamn. I haven't been this impressed with a black metal album for a long time. For those not familiar with them, it's the band of Satyricon's live guitarist Obsidian C. After the "Reclaim" MCD, which featured none other then Frost of Satyricon and Attila of Mayhem, Obsidian C finally gathered a bunch of members to record "Armada" which is already considered as one of the greatest black metal albums ever by some critics. The songs really take some time to get used to but once you accept them You can hear influences of Satyricon (pretty obvious), Dissection, Mayhem,... and strangely enough the singer's clean vocals remind me of Muse.

It's good but nothing like the first two albums. It seems a lot like Reclaim to me but not as cohesive and obviously lacking Frost and Attila. |
