|
Hello Death.fm,
as the discussion shivered through on the opeth thread there are some ppl that care about the lenght of songs. There also had been a thread about unfair request some month ago. The reason im doing this thread is to contribute a constructive solution to the problem or a base which makes it easier for JERIC to supervise this matter and make a decission fair to all.
Opeth thread:
http://death.fm/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2153&start=39
unfair request thread:
http://death.fm/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1818&highlight=
so here are three options to offer if possible being programmed as module:
N° 1: Everyone gets credit points per day; normal account gets less than RIPs (e.g.: normal = 10points, RIP = 100 points)
for each song u pick u get subtracted of your credit points which even considers the lenght of the song u picked.
Example:
RIP Account 100 points per day:
song between 0:00 - 2:00mins = -2 credits
songs between 2:01 - 5:00mins = -5 credits (which limits to 20 picks per day of "normal" songs)
songs between 5:01 - 10:00mins =-10 credits
songs between 10:01 -15:00mins= -15 credits
songs > 15 mins = -25credits
N°2: This solution only affects the RIPs cause them are on the golden side of death.fm.
If a RIP requests a long song (e.g. >10 mins) he/she should get the amount of minutes added to the basic request wait time.
Example:
Pesa requests Opeth :
basic wait for rip = 5mins + black rose immortal (21 mins)
Pesa RIP wait now 25 mins!
N°3: Double the waiting time for all in general which will probably shorten the queue but also piss of ppl which feel punished wrongfully
I personally prefer one of the dynamic solutions which seems more fair to catch the person that unleashed the long request upon the queue, but im aware this would mean hard work to get this done and prgrammed. Anyway I hope it helps to make any changes to this state. _________________

Well personally i feel that if you pay to become a member your wait time should be quiker, but on the other hand new ppl who just want to try the station out should have like 1 song that get's played fast, just so they know if they like it before they spend there hard earned money.or welfare check's. |

A very interesting approach Seclu, I think the first option has potential. _________________ o

the RIP forum, oops...
Don't know exactly 'cause didn't see it since i subscribed but remember was

Thnx to your postive feedback guys, some other option were mentioned in the chat so far. I wanna encourage everyone to contribute his/her option here to find a good outcome for all.

Sure Blas but I still see a clear advantage in being RIP, but unlimited borders won´t cut excessive repeating, won´t make ppl think before they request or choose by quality not quantity. _________________

Supposing I have understood Seclu's propositions:
Credit Points per Day: An alone requester will exhaust his/her credits soon and see a queue full of System/Admin. A long-stay requester will burn his/her credits on some time and stay the remaining day without request anymore.
RIP wait time as function of length of songs by he/she requested: Similar problem; an alone requester won't fill the queue by himself/herself.
Double the waiting time for all: As the ideal control for queue length is turning request wait time a function of just queue length (as is today), this is the better solution among ones proposed by Seclu.
Perhaps, the current control would be improved by turning request wait a function of 2 numbers: Current Queue Length & Number of Requesters. So, might be a solution better than just boost time.

I see nothing bad in just letting the system take over at a certain point. if credits exhausted the "alone requester" had his fun and other have the chance. same about the second: the "long stay requester" will be more careful on what he chooses.
Whoever of those two you are unlimitation is gate to excess. _________________

Remember the time i joined and wasn't a RIP yet, Seclu was something like
a "hero" much online time many requests once he said "what a lousy day only
25 req's (don't remember exactly), normal is at least 40". |

Seclu, on distinct times, Pesa, Blasph & Seclu, have exhibited, pride, their "owned queues".
The problem with that first two approaches is that they punish requesters straight. If the radio has few requesters at one time, they will be punished regardless quantity of requesters.
Being a function of time (queue length) and quantity (number of requesters), the control would be more fair.

How about locking all songs longer than 6 or maybe 7 minutes if queue
reaches 2 hours, then everyone is afraid of getting less music for much wait
time and all pick long tracks, first the non-subscribers, then the RIP's are
annoyed of their increased wait time and take revenge, et voila, we have a
3 hour queue within a few minutes by choosing only 4 or 5 songs. |

i remember very well saying things like this blasp, but i also notice there is a change in subscribtion going on, more and more ppl want to request and im ready to share the time. Times change u know?!
i really enjoyed being dj but well it was during nighttime where nobody got harmed. Also 100 points are just a proposal. U should learn to see the idea as universal and not to count peas.
Telling this idea is good or bad is an approach on constructivism but telling 20,21,22,23.. requests per day are not enough is fine-tuning which doesn´t anything about the aproach at all. _________________
